Say Goodbye to Credit Card Annual Fees in Singapore!

Singapore Credit Cards

Do you enjoy ease and comfort of cashless transactions? Most Singaporeans own two or more cards and also love a good deal. Credit card companies have tapped into this urge to earn reward points and redeem them.

You enjoy great deals from signing bonuses to mileage points and cash backs, but it comes at a price. Cards that offer better rewards usually come with hefty annual/membership fees, which can burn a hole in your pocket in the long run.

Avoid pricey annual fees

While credit cards have zero annual fees in the first year, recurring charges make their way into your statement when you’re not looking.

You cough up the amount even as your mind rebels against it. Sometimes the bank allows you to trade loyalty points against the annual charge.

Did you know you could get your fee waived?

This isn’t a time consuming process either.

Get fee waiver with a call

Getting your credit card company to cancel your annual fees is quite easy. You can save $100 and more in card fees. It’s so simple; you’ll regret not using this technique sooner.

While the standard advice is to threaten to cancel the card, you don’t have to take a ninja stance as yet.

How does this work?

Just call up your bank’s customer service. With numerous requests for annual fee waiver pouring in, many banks have created an automatic system to handle waivers.

If you own a popular credit card, you just press a few phone options and the system does the rest. If this doesn’t work, your call is transferred to a customer service officer, who will approve your request based on your credit card usage as long as you ask (even with zero usage).

  • CITI bank customer service number has since changed; and, you have to speak to the customer service officer for waiver. They will also try to sell you their product.

  • Hi Karen, Citibank has changed to automated too. I just did it and got it waived without talking to anyone. FYI.

  • what abou American Express ?
I have called up to OCBC but after 5 working days no outcome from them.

  • Hi Karen, Thank you very much. citi bank waived half only…

  • I’m foreigner, just meet trouble when OCBC ask me to input NRIC number. I input my FIN number and it just say invalid NRIC NUMBER. OCBC call center is really unfriendly to foreign user

  • I hv tried to request Citibank to waive off my membership of $192.60 but it was rejected. Reason being I have used up my incentives points to offset my payment . Now they do not allow me to cancel my card. They insisted me to pay the membership even if I to cancel my card. This is so disappointing !!!!

  • UOB never waive my annual fees, mentioned the bank lost money if did so, so people before you apply their cards, please bear in mind.

  • Citibank is now NOT waiving annual fees for cash back card. Citibank still asked me to pay annual fees after I asked to cancel the card. Insisted I am not paying for annual fees on my statement ( that’s why I stopped GIRO a few years ago). Will close my Citibank account too. Recommend to switch to CIMB signature Visa credit card to get 10% rebates with minimum spend $600 a month – no annual fees!! Much better deal than Citibank!!!
